Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

There are a lot of Christians who have wrong ideas about why they should go to church. Some, sadly, don’t go to church at all, while others go to different churches on different Sundays; one this Sunday, then another the next. They claim the spice of variety as the reason for hopping from one church to another. This practice is alien to the culture of church attendance and membership laid out for us in the Word of God. Some believers even do online church attendance on a regular basis. They have online pastors, who cannot come to their rescue when they face off-line challenges.

Why go to church? This is a predominant question in the hearts of many people. The Word of God teaches that church is a family, not an association, company or gathering of unrelated people. It is a family of born-again believers, who are blood (Jesus’ blood) related in Christ (Ephesians 3:14-15; Psalm 68:6). The very moment someone gets saved, he or she is incorporated into the body of Christ, that is, the Church. This incorporation is done into the church universal; however, the believer ought to belong to a local assembly that is pastored by a local pastor for his spiritual development. Beloved, ministry gifts (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers) are situated in the Church to perfect (mature), edify and prepare believers for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:8-12). Church is God’s school for the believer’s training and equipping for life and ministry. An internet pastor cannot watch over your soul unto maturity. He can only bless you with the wisdom of God’s Word but cannot pastor you in the actual sense of pastoring. You need to actively be part of a local assembly (church) where you have a pastor who knows you, and whom you know.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for enlightening me on the importance of being part of a local assembly. I declare that I am consistent in my walk with You and I do not play truancy with church attendance in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
