The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 12 August 2024: Meditating on the Word

Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

Meditation in the Word of God cannot be over emphasised. Meditation helps to cast your awareness and concentration on the Word of God. It shifts your gaze from every distraction to the Word. To meditate on God’s Word is to confess it softly to yourself and think deeply on the Word of God until it forms the character of your mind. Meditation is the process of focusing your mind on God’s Word by speaking it to yourself. However, there must be “a hearing” of God’s Word in an audible form to ensure biblical meditation. The Word must be verbalized, spoken to one’s hearing to bring about meditation. Biblical meditation begins with the speaking of God’s Word to secure hearing on two levels. First, a physical, audible hearing with your ears, and second, a spiritual hearing with your spirit. The first hearing is to ensure presence of mind with the Word, while the second hearing is to minister faith to the hearer to the end that there might be a fresh perspective or vision of God’s Word.

This second dimension is the realm of meticulous, keen observation to do the Word. Again, verbalizing the Word focuses the mind on the Word until it gets a hold of the spirit (Proverbs 4:20). At this moment, spiritual realities can be acted out almost unconsciously. The human brain is the most advanced and complex organ of the human body. It is always busy moving from one thought to another. The things you surround yourself with will form your thoughts. Don’t permit your brain to process unwanted thoughts. If you watch horror movies all day, thoughts of fear will rule you. If you read immoral novels constantly, thoughts of lust will gain the ascendancy. You must learn to shut the door of your mind to unwanted thoughts. How? Jesus said: “…Take no thought by saying…” (Matthew 6:25). You take thoughts by verbalizing them. To fill your thoughts with God’s Word, you must verbalize the Word in the place of meditation.

MY SOLID FRONT (CONFESSION)
Heavenly Father, I thank You for enlightening me on how to meditate on Your Word daily. I declare that my mind is fruitful and I do not dwell on unproductive things but I am engaged with meditating Your Word in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Further Meditation: Psalm 1:1‐5; I Timothy 4:15
