The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 28 FEBRUARY 2024: Riches and Honour Come from God
Riches and Honour Come from God
1Chronicles 29:12, 26-28.
1 Chronicles 29:12 “Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.”
26 David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27 He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.
Leverage Devotional For Today Message:
Today, we are looking into the true source of riches and honour. Every man on the face of the earth wants to get rich and famous. Some are even willing to attain this goal by risking their lives and the lives of others around them just to get rich. Some people commit suicide, just because they are poor and cannot pay their bills. When people do not know and understand the true source of a thing, they search for it in the wrong places. True riches and honour can only be given by God and a man can receive nothing except it is given to him from above (John 3:27). Scriptures say that promotion comes from the Lord (Psalm 75:6-7). Any form of riches and honour that does not come from God is not true riches and honour. If you must be in control of true riches and honour, your dependence must be on God and not on man or the ways of man.
Being a believer does not mean you have to be poor. Your God is the owner of silver and gold (Haggai 2:8). In 1Chronicles 29:12, King David acknowledged that riches, honour, power, might, greatness and strength come from God. Indeed, it was God who blessed King David with riches and honour (1Chronicles 29:28). It was also God who blessed King Solomon and said to him, “…I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour” (2Chronicles 1:11-12). Beloved, it is in God’s hands to make a man rich, and I’ve got good news for you: God wants you to be rich. However, to enjoy the constant supply of riches and honour from God, you must live a life of honour unto, and reverence for God. Wealth and riches are in the house of the man who fears the Lord (Psalm 112:1-3). A life that honours God is an exalted life. Proverbs 3:9-10 reveals to us that when we honour God with our substance, He blesses and increases us. A man does not have to be the best in what He does to be the richest. Honouring God is the dominant force for riches and honour. This is a mystery that some believers are yet to lay hold on. When the life and substance of a man honour the Lord, He will lift him up. Honour is a product of faith in the Lord from whom comes riches and honour. How can you honour God? With a lifestyle of obedience to God’s word and liberality towards God. Honour God’s word with your obedience and honour His work on the face of the earth with your substance, in tithes, offerings, and seeds. Honour God with this understanding that He is the Source of all the things you have. Lay it to heart to honour the Lord and He will prosper you in all your ways.
MY SOLID FRONT (CONFESSION):
Father, I thank You, because riches and honour come from You. I thank You because it is Your will for me to have riches and honour. Today, I declare that I will honour you with my life and with all that You have blessed me with in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Further Meditation: Psalm 112; 1Samuel 2:30
Psalm 112
1 Praise the Lord.[b]
Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
who find great delight in his commands.
2 Their children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in their houses,
and their righteousness endures forever.
4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5 Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
6 Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever.
7 They will have no fear of bad news;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8 Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
9 They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,
their righteousness endures forever;
their horn[c] will be lifted high in honor.
10 The wicked will see and be vexed,
they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
30 “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.
