The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 24 January 2024: GOD GIVES MORE GRACE
Topic: THE WAYS OF GOD’S GRACE
James 4:6, Luke 18:9-14
James 4:6 “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Leverage Devotional For Today Message:
It is an unquestionable fact that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. God gives more grace. His grace can intensify and increase in your life. We learnt yesterday that it takes a lifestyle of humility and gratitude to enjoy increasing measures of God’s grace. Today, we want to consider how you can get into the dimension of intensified grace through dedication to God. James 4:4 says, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” Beloved, you need to understand that you cannot be a friend of the world, and be God’s friend at the same time. Friendship with the world is enmity with God, and no enemy of God can partake of His grace. The moment you take sides with the world, you have simply turned down the grace of God. When you choose to be on God’s side, you will enjoy all that God has to offer.
It is important to understand that the Holy Spirit within you is a jealous Spirit and He will not want you shared with the world in any way. The Passion Translation (TPT) of James 5:5 says that the Spirit of God is “…a jealous Lover who intensely desires to have more and more of us”. The Holy Spirit is possessive and He wants you dedicated and totally given to God and God alone. So, you cannot befriend God and the world at the same time. Those who befriend the world are usually self-made; but if you yield yourself to be a friend of God, then you become grace-made. Father Abraham was a product of God’s grace, but for him to step into that grace, he had to be called out of his father’s house in order to have a devoted walk with God. Beloved, it is time to cut off from the world and everything that is trying to share you with God, and be fully dedicated to God. To have God’s grace multiplied unto you, live in total dedication and consecration to God. Be totally given to God and you will remain connected to the abundant supply of His grace.
My Solid Front (Confession)
In the name of Jesus, I yield myself in total dedication to becoming a friend of God. I will not company with the world and the evil in it. I will not serve mammon. But I give myself, spirit, soul, and body, to God, serving Him wholeheartedly. I therefore declare that God’s grace is multiplied unto me in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Further Meditation: Matthew 6:24, 1 Peter 5:5-10
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”[a]
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
