The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 31 January 2024: JUST AN ASKING AWAY
Matthew 7:7; Luke 11:9-13; 1 John 5:14-15
Matthew 7:7 “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you“
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[a] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Leverage Devotional For Today Message:
It is God’s responsibility to take care of you. God can meet your needs over and above your imaginations, but you must ask. It takes asking to receive from the Lord. Your miracle is just an asking away; your breakthrough is just an asking away. Asking here is not informing God about your needs; it is actually activating your faith and your ability to receive from God. There are different kinds of prayers in scriptures. There’s a prayer of supplication, there’s a prayer of faith, there’s a prayer of intercession, there’s a prayer of thanksgiving and there’s a prayer of agreement. But the prayer of supplication is the most prayed in scriptures. If you look at scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, you understand that supplication takes the highest frequency. In Ephesians 6:18, the Word of the Lord says that we should pray “always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit”. In other words, make your request known unto the Lord.
When you ask, you will receive. James 4:2 says we have not because we ask not. Asking is for receiving. The end of asking is actually receiving. So you’re not asking to let God know about your needs. God knew your needs before you came and God is mindful of you. Your asking is like a spiritual protocol of faith, activating your faith towards receiving. In our opening scripture, we see clearly that asking precedes receiving. If you want to receive from God, then you have to ask. And remember to “…ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” (James 1:6-7). Your desire is just an asking away. Go ahead, ask, and receive in Jesus’ name.
My Solid Front (Confession)
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the privilege to ask You for anything according to Your will for me. Today, I take advantage of the privilege of asking You in the name of Jesus, and I declare that I receive my answers. Amen.
Further Meditation: Jeremiah 29:11-14; John 16:23-24
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.[a] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
