James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5-6

James 4:6 “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud
    but shows favor to the humble.”[a]

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

Our opening scripture tells us about the grace of God. God hates pride; no proud person can receive grace from God. However, He benevolently bestows His abundant grace upon the humble. God is the benevolent Giver of grace, and His divine favour is extended to those who recognise and cherish His love. There is a profound connection between humility, gratitude, and the generous outpouring of God’s grace. Humility begins with a deep conviction of God’s love, and a recognition that a man can receive nothing except he is given from above (John 3:27). When you are mindful that God loved you first, even while you were still in sin, it would keep you humble. It takes a humble person to be grateful. A life of humility and gratitude is key to partaking of God’s grace which is available to as many who believe.

Our opening scripture also tells us that God gives more grace. This means that having received grace, you can receive more grace. Beloved, you can enjoy an ever-increasing measure of God’s grace. The key to unlocking this divine abundance of grace is gratitude. Jeremiah 30:19 shows us how thanksgiving leads to multiplication and glorification. The ways of God’s grace are full of gratitude and humility. Humility is a conduit for grace, and gratitude amplifies the impact of grace. Beloved, avoid pride, for God resists the proud. Pride stems from a failure to acknowledge God’s goodness. Do not join the company of murmurers, for their end is destruction. If you want to see more of God’s grace in your life, stay humble and thankful. May you enjoy God’s ever-increasing grace on your pathway of humility and gratitude!
