The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 17 January 2024: BE SOBER AND BE VIGILANT
Topic: BE SOBER AND BE VIGILANT
1 Peter 5:8-9; 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8
1 Peter 5:8-9 ‘Be sober; be vigilant because your adversary the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Now resist Him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering is experienced by your brotherhood in the world’.
6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Leverage Devotional For Today Message:
Being sober simply means to be sensitive and thoughtful within, i.e. to have a thoughtful and meditative consciousness within your heart and within your mind such that you are not rash and you are not doing things anyhow. Being vigilant means to be very observant enough to examine the thought processes going on in your mind because you understand that the enemy comes in with suggestions, thoughts, notions, spoken words, and sometimes you may be nodding your head, attesting to what the enemy is doing without knowing that the enemy is trying to stamp something on you. So, you have to be very vigilant to know when the devil is speaking. When some thoughts are coming to your mind and they are not your natural thoughts, you have to learn to resist them.
You need to be sober, you need to be vigilant because your adversary, the devil walks about like a roaring lion. He is not a roaring lion but like a roaring lion; he is trying to get his prey by intimidation. He is trying to make people handicapped by bringing thoughts of fear, thoughts of insecurity, thoughts of condemnation, and you have to be sober and vigilant. Be thoughtful and observant, beloved. Never give the devil a chance to take advantage of you. If there’s any thought coming to your mind or somebody is saying something that is contrary to your heritage in Christ, resist it vehemently. And don’t resist it with silence; cancel that thought with your confession by speaking out loud your realities in Christ.
My Solid Front (Confession)
Heavenly Father, I thank You for showing me the craftiness of the devil and teaching me how to stop him in his tracks. Now, I declare in the name of Jesus that the devil has no room for his cunning operations within the perimeter of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Further Meditation:Romans 13:11-13; Matthew 24:42-44
11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
