The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 12 FEBRUARY 2024: GO AND SIN NO MORE
Topic: GO AND SIN NO MORE
GO AND SIN NO MORE
John 8:10-11; Ephesians 2:1-5
John 8:10-11 ‘When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.’
1As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Leverage Devotional For Today Message:
Our opening scripture was the Words of Jesus Christ to the woman who was caught in the very act of adultery. The full account is found in John 8:1-11. The adulteress’ accusers took stones, wanting to stone her to death, and they just wanted a go-ahead from the Lord Jesus Christ to justify their desire to condemn a sinner. So, they brought her to Jesus Christ and asked for His take on the matter, given that Moses said in the law that anyone who is caught in the very act of adultery should be stoned to death. But Jesus Christ said to them, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”. Those who brought an accusation against the woman were convicted of their sins, so they left, all of them beginning at the eldest, even until the last. None of them could condemn her because they were convicted of their own sins. Then the Lord said to her, “Go and sin no more, neither do I condemn you.”
Now, understand that Jesus Christ never condemns anyone. However, this does not mean that He condones sin. You need to understand that you are justified to go and sin no more. You are forgiven to go and sin no more. You are not justified to continue in sin. Romans 6:1-2 says, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” It is unheard of that someone who has been forgiven and justified continues in sin. We have come into newness of life; we are no longer sinners. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is our empowerment to go and sin no more. Because we are under grace, we have dominion over sin. Therefore, Beloved, Go and sin no more.
My Solid Front (Confession)
Heavenly Father I thank You because the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ has placed me far above sin. I am not condemned; I have received mercy and grace. Therefore, I yield my body and soul, not as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but as instruments of righteousness to God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Further Meditation: Romans 6:1-14; Titus 2:11-12
1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
