The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 17 January 2024: MAINTAINING A PLEASANT TEMPER

Topic: MAINTAINING A PLEASANT TEMPER

Ephesians 4:26-27, 31-32

Ephesians 4:26-27 ‘be ye angry and sin not, let not the sun come down upon your wrath, neither give place to the devil’.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

Anger is a form of displeasure. In other words, being angry means you are displeased about something or displeased with someone who said or did something against you, or did something that you didn’t like. As long as you are on this earth, there will be such people who will do things to displease you. However, you must learn to handle your displeasure. The Bible says in our opening scripture that in your anger, you must not sin. When someone offends you, be quick to forgive; do not go to bed while harbouring wrath and offence in your heart against the person who wronged you in the course of the day. By doing this, the devil would have no place in your heart or life. The moment you allow your displeasure to make your emotions exasperated and then anger begins to linger in your heart, sin is produced. So, do not let anger linger within you.

The Bible says in Proverbs 25:28, that the person who has no rule over his own spirit (that is, cannot control his temper) is like a city that is broken down and without walls. God is saying here that you need to control your temper. You are in charge of your temper. Do not let your temper move you beyond the place where you are temperate in all things. So, make sure to control your temper. Ecclesiastes 7:9 says, ‘be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry for anger rests in the bosom of a fool’. You are not a fool, and I know that the wisdom of God is at work in you. Therefore, do not let anger rest in your bosom because when anger lingers in your bosom, it’s like taking fire into your bosom; your clothes will be burned (Proverbs 6:27), and your nakedness exposed, because your clothes are actually meant to cover your nakedness. When you let anger linger in your bosom, it brings shame, dishonour, and nakedness. Therefore, you must never allow anger to linger in your heart. As a child of God, it’s time to surrender to God’s will and ensure to deliberately maintain a pleasant temper.

My Solid Front (Confession)
Thank You, Father, for showing me the disadvantages of a bad temper. In the name of Jesus, I will not allow anger linger in me. Today, I receive grace to tame anger and put it under by the help of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
