The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 21 October 2024: Receive The Word

Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” Proverbs 4:20‐21

We’ve seen that the Word of God is our life and light. The Word of God is the wisdom by which we guide our affairs and lives. The Scripture shows us that there is an attitude that we must have and a posture to maintain for us to receive the Word. Proverbs 4:20 shows us that we must attend to the Word of God. To attend means to pay attention or to give careful heed. It means that you put away distractions and focus on the Word. “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which can save your souls” (James 1:21). Also, the Word says, “Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:1-2). We see from the preceding scriptures that we need to put away distractions first before we can receive the Word effectively.

Having put away all distractions, we are to incline our ears to the Word. Look at how Proverbs 5:1 puts it; “My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding”. We are to ‘bow down’ our ears to the Word of God. This is how to receive God’s Word, in quietness and meekness of heart. Little wonder the Bible says, “The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.” (Psalm 25:9). Beloved, God wants to speak His Word to you but you need to have the right attitude in other to receive from Him; an attitude of quietness and meekness of heart. These two qualities are of great price before the Lord (1 Peter 3:4).

MY SOLID FRONT (CONFESSION)
Dear heavenly Father, this very day I put away everything that could distract me and I humble myself to receive Your precious Word by which my life will be changed and upgraded in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Further Meditation: Isaiah 50:4; Hebrews 2:1‐3
