Anglican Devotional 22 May 2024: What Are Your Goals

The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 22 May 2024 – What Are Your Goals

TOPIC: What Are Your Goals

READ: Philippians 3:10-16 (NKJV)

  1. that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
  2. if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
  3. Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
  4. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing [I do,] forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
  5. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
  6. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
  7. Nevertheless, to [the degree] that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

THE MESSAGE:

Apostle Paul in today’s lesson mentions what his goals were. These goals were: Knowing Christ, the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His suffering and being like Him in His death (verse 10). This is not because Paul was doubting or not certain about the reality of the Messianic nature of Jesus Christ, but an indication of humility, just like Jesus, to the point of death. That is why despite his spirituality, Paul did not consider himself as someone who had achieved his goal but one still struggling to achieve it (verse 13).

Brethren, regardless of what our achievement or success could be, knowing Christ, the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His suffering and being like Him in His death, should be our goals, just like Apostle Paul. This knowledge goes beyond the physical experience to the spiritual knowledge of Jesus Christ that makes us to have a relationship with Him. So, whatever our goals as Christians, they should never be outside having the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the grace to always seek the eternal and not the canal in Jesus’ name, Amen.
