The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 13 February 2024 – Make A Choice

TOPIC: Make A Choice

READ: John 6: 67-71 (NKJV)

  1. Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
  2. But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
  3. “Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
  4. Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
  5. He spoke of Judas Iscariot, [the son] of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

Today is Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, when Lent begins. It is observed in many Christian Churches by participation in confession and absolution in preparation for the beginning of Lent. In our text, we find Jesus asking the twelve if they wanted to also leave as the disciples that had done so the previous day. Peter answered that they were going nowhere because He has the words of eternal life and that they had come to believe and know that He is the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus informed them that although He chose them, one of them was of the devil.

Our world is full of choices. The Christian life has to do with making a choice, moment by moment and day by day. You make a choice to become a Christian or a follower of Christ and you also make a choice to abide in Him. Jesus confronted His twelve disciples to make a choice of going away or staying with Him. Peter made the correct choice that they would stay with Him who had words of eternal life and also the Son of the living God. Have you made the choice of becoming a disciple of Christ? If you have not, make it today! Receive Jesus into your life (John 1: 12-13).

PRAYER: Lord, help me to choose Jesus now and always.
