The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 6 February 2024 – Witnessing For Jesus
TOPIC: Witnessing For Jesus
READ: John 5: 31-38 (NKJV)
- ” If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.
- “There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.
- “You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
- “Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.
- “He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
- “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish — the very works that I do — bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
- “And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
- “But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.
THE MESSAGE:
In the Jewish legal system, one could not testify on his own behalf alone. Two or more witnesses were needed to testify about that person (Deuteronomy 17:6; Numbers 35:30). Jesus provides three pieces of evidence that testify about who He claims to be or what He claims to do. John the Baptist testified of Him (John 5:33). People observed the miraculous works He did (John 5:36). The Father testified of Him (John 5:37; Mark 1:11). The unbelief of the Jews concerning Jesus is an evidence that they lacked the word of God in their lives.
The testimony of two or three persons is enough for something to be established. The three testimonies referred to Jesus in the passage suggest that He is actually the Son of God. Do you have a testimony about Jesus? Has He done anything special in your life, family, Church or nation? Witness for Jesus at all times. Testify of His love, care, sacrifice and salvation in your life. What type of testimony do people have about you? Do you create time to witness for Christ to your friends, relatives and associates? Share the good news with someone today!
PRAYER: O Lord, fill me with Your Spirit so that I may be bold to witness for Christ today
