Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

The Bible shows us that we are involved in a contest against spiritual forces, and we are to put on the whole armour of God so we would be able to stand against all the wiles or schemes of the wicked one. One of the weapons we engage in this combat is the Word of God, which is called the Sword of the Spirit according to Ephesians 6:17. The Word of God in that Scripture refers to ‘Rhema’, different from ‘Logos’. Rhema and Logos are two Greek words that are translated as ‘word’ in English. Rhema refers to the spoken word while logos is the totality of the Word of God, both spoken and unspoken, and it’s embodied in the person of Jesus (John 1:1). So, we can read Ephesians 6:17 as “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the ‘Rhema’ of God.” The spoken Word is the sword of the Spirit, not the written Word. When you put God’s Word in your mouth, speaking it to circumstances and situations, it becomes a sword that will fight against the adversaries.

Some people put the Bible under their pillows when they sleep at night to ward off evil influences or prevent any bad dreams. That’s not how to use the Bible. The words in the Bible come alive when you put them in your heart by meditation and you speak them forth in faith. 2 Corinthians 3:6 says, “… the letter kills but the Spirit gives life”. The Word of God in letter form on the pages of the book will not fight your battles and give you victory. It’s the Word spoken from your lips in faith that will cut through every darkness and bring the desired victory. This is how to make the Word work for you. Put it in your mouth and proclaim it out loud in faith.

Thank You, heavenly Father, for Your Word. I declare that Your Word in my mouth is as a flaming sword piercing through darkness and bringing me victory always. Amen.
