MESSAGE

Preschoolers are usually taught the five magic words, which are: excuse me, please, sorry, thank you, and pardon me. Over the next few days, I will teach about each of these magic words.

The first is ‘excuse me’. This phrase is a polite way of asking a fellow to move away from your path because he or she is obstructing you. For example, when someone is standing in front of a door that you are approaching, as a matter of courtesy, you should say, “Excuse me,” so that the person will step aside for you to pass.

It is very appalling to see children and teenagers struggling to pass through a door or little space with another person. I see it as a lack of etiquette or respect, especially if the person is older than they are. Respecting other people only increases your good reputation before men. The Bible says that a good name is better than riches. Therefore, you should learn to respect others and use respectful words.

REFLECTION
How respectful are you?
