TOPIC: Get Help! (Open Heaven for Teens 7 September 2024)

MEMORISE: Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. – Proverbs 11:14

READ: 1 Samuel 20:1-4

  1. And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
  2. And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
  3. And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
  4. Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Song 5:1-8:14 2 Corinthians 9:1-15

MESSAGE

Many people hate to ask others for help. They have a ‘I can do it on my own’ mentality. I have discovered that many teenagers bottle up their emotions because they don’t want to feel like a burden. Sometimes, they do this just to show that they are in control of everything that happens in their lives.

My dear child, there is nothing wrong with seeking help. When Saul was after David’s life, he cried to God and people for help many times, and he got it. Asking for help doesn’t mean that you’re weak or vulnerable; it only means that you are wise. It also means that you are ready to let go of the burdens that have held you down.

When should you ask for help? You should ask for help if you have been abused emotionally, physically, or sexually. You should also ask for help when you are struggling with a subject or course in school or when you find it difficult to overcome a particular sin. You should seek help from God, godly and mature counsellors, godly friends, and your parents or guardians. I pray that you will always find help in times of need, in Jesus’ name.

  1. O God, Our Help In Ages Past
Our Hope For Years To Come
Our Shelter From The Stormy Blast
    And Our Eternal Home
  2. Under The Shadow Of Thy Throne
    Thy Saints Have Dwelt Secure
    Sufficient Is Thine Arm Alone
    And Our Defence Is Sure
  3. Before The Hills In Order Stood
    Or Earth Received Her Frame
    From Everlasting Thou Art God
    To Endless Years The Same
  4. A Thousand Ages In Thy Sight
    Are Like An Evening Gone
Short As The Watch That Ends The Night
    Before The Rising Sun
  5. Time, Like An Ever-Rolling Stream
    Bears All Its Sons Away
They Fly Forgotten, As A Dream
    Dies At The Opening Day
  6. O God, Our Help In Ages Past
Our Hope For Years To Come
Be Thou Our Guard While Trouble Last
    And Our Eternal Home
