Open Heaven For Teens 27 September 2024 – King Saul

TOPIC: King Saul (Open Heaven for Teens 27 September 2024)

MEMORISE: But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. – 1 Samuel 16:14

READ: 1 Samuel 15:22-23

  1. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
  2. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Isaiah 45:11-48:11, Ephesians 4:1-16

MESSAGE:

The story of king Saul started out very well. In 1 Samuel 9:2, he was described as a man of great height and handsome appearance. He was an obedient young man who volunteered to help his father find some of his missing animals, and while on that trip, he prophesied in the company of godly men. Eventually, he became the chosen one to lead the people of Israel as their first king ever.

However, Saul messed up when he started feeling very important before the people. Even when Prophet Samuel corrected him for dishonouring and disobeying God in today’s Bible reading, the king was more concerned about his own reputation. Thus, the kingdom was taken from him. He was rejected by God and replaced by little David (1 Samuel 16:12-13).

Beloved, it is good to remember your Creator in the days of your youth, but it is far better to remain consistent with Him as you grow older and become successful. Let your heart remain focused on God, and seek to do only His will above all else.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to obey You always, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 53: ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus

1 ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”

Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

3 Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

4 I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend,
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

3 Deeper, Deeper! Tho’ It Cost Hard Trials,
Deeper Let Me Go!
Rooted In The Holy Love Of Jesus,
Let Me Fruitful Grow. [Refrain]

4 Deeper, Higher, Ev’ry Day In Jesus,
Till All Conflict Past,
Finds Me Conqu’ror, And In His Own Image
Perfected At Last. [Refrain]
