BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 17:1-18:34 Romans 9:25-10:13

MESSAGE

The Bible enjoins us to honour our fathers and mothers so that we will live long. However, many young people question the culture of respecting elders. As a teenager, you should honour elderly people so that you can get divine blessings. I remember when I returned from a journey, and two of my sons came to meet me at the airport. One greeted me, while the other greeted me and collected my bags. Then, I said to the one who greeted me and collected my bags, “God bless you, son.”

Honouring an elder goes beyond just greeting them. You should help them willingly, give to them, speak well of them in their absence, pray for them, value their opinions even if you don’t agree with them, and learn from them. When you do these, they will trust you and share their experiences with you.

Elders are not perfect. They make mistakes too because they are humans, but that doesn’t give you a right to dishonour, abuse, or ridicule them.

ACTION POINT:

Do something to honour an old man or woman in your church or neighbourhood this weekend.

HYMN 26, There Shall Be Showers Of Blessings

1.There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain. [Refrain]

3. There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come and now honor Thy Word. [Refrain]

4. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call! [Refrain]
