The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 27 August 2024 — Turning Your Rejection Into Celebration

TOPIC: Turning Your Rejection Into Celebration

READ: Genesis 39:1-6 (NKJV)

  1. Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.
  2. The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
  3. And his master saw that the LORD [was] with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand.
  4. So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all [that] he had he put under his authority.
  5. So it was, from the time [that] he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had in the house and in the field.
  6. Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

To carry and to preserve God’s presence, especially in difficult times, is to affirm with strong conviction “I know whom I have believed, and I’m persuaded that he is able…” (2 Timothy 1:12). One thing Joseph carried and preserved into the land of his captivity is the presence of God. God’s presence with him made him prosperous (verse 2) and his prosperity was so evident that his master made him the general overseer of his house and all that he had. The high point in our text is that Joseph carried and preserved God’s presence with him even in the land of his captivity.

Do hard times affect your devotion to God negatively? Are you attempting turning your back on the Master and reducing your fervency as a result of your supposedly “being deceived by God?” (Jeremiah 20:7). Joseph was a man of like passion but has learnt how to pass through the valley of Baca and making it a well (Psalm 84:5-7). Men who pray and weep before God go from strength to strength! Make out time today to spend quality time of Bible study and prayers in God’s presence. You will be greatly blessed.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be satisfied with nothing but Your presence. Give me grace to always stand before You, especially in difficult times.
