The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 21 July 2024 – TEACH ME, O LORD!

TOPIC: TEACH ME, O LORD!

READ: Psalm 119: 65-80 (NKJV)

119:65. You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word.
119:66. Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments.
119:67. Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
119:68. You [are] good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes.
119:69. The proud have forged a lie against me, [But] I will keep Your precepts with [my] whole heart.
119:70. Their heart is as fat as grease, [But] I delight in Your law.
119:71. [It is] good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
119:72. The law of Your mouth [is] better to me Than thousands of [coins of] gold and silver.
119:73. Your hands have made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
119:74. Those who fear You will be glad when they see me, Because I have hoped in Your word.
119:75. I know, O LORD, that Your judgments [are] right, And [that] in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
119:76. Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my comfort, According to Your word to Your servant.
119:77. Let Your tender mercies come to me, that I may live; For Your law [is] my delight.
119:78. Let the proud be ashamed, For they treated me wrongfully with falsehood; [But] I will meditate on Your precepts.
119:79. Let those who fear You turn to me, Those who know Your testimonies.
119:80. Let my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes, That I may not be ashamed.

THE MESSAGE:

Today, the Psalmist is declaring the goodness of the Lord in his life while asking God to teach him good judgment and knowledge. He also wants God to teach him his statutes to enable him keep God’s precepts with his whole heart. He delights in God’s law and finds his law better than much money.

Again, he prays for understanding to learn God’s commandments and also asks for God’s kindness to be his comfort and His tender mercies to be his portion. He insists he will meditate on the word of God and live a blameless life. The words of the Psalmist should resonate in the hearts of Christians.

Every Christian needs to be taught by God so that he will have knowledge, good judgment, and delight in the word of God. While some Christians wake up early in the morning to search the Scriptures during their Disciplined Daily Devotions (3Ds) or special quiet times, others don’t.

Do you have a personal time with God every day when He teaches you? Having your daily quiet time is good but having your Disciplined Daily Devotion is much better. Jesus calls us to be with him before He sends us out (Mark 3: 14).

Create time intentionally to be with the Lord daily and your life will be transformed.

PRAYER: My Father, help me to spend quality time with you every day, Amen.
