TOPIC: Cleaving to God

READ: Psalm 119: 113-128(NKJV)
119:113. I hate the double-minded, But I love Your law.
119:114. You [are] my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.
119:115. Depart from me, you evildoers, For I will keep the commandments of my God!
119:116. Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.
119:117. Hold me up, and I shall be safe, And I shall observe Your statutes continually.
119:118. You reject all those who stray from Your statutes, For their deceit [is] falsehood.
119:119. You put away all the wicked of the earth [like] dross; Therefore I love Your testimonies.
119:120. My flesh trembles for fear of You, And I am afraid of Your judgments.
119:121. I have done justice and righteousness; Do not leave me to my oppressors.
119:122. Be surety for Your servant for good; Do not let the proud oppress me.
119:123. My eyes fail [from seeking] Your salvation And Your righteous word.
119:124. Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, And teach me Your statutes.
119:125. I [am] Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies.
119:126. [It is] time for [You] to act, O LORD, [For] they have regarded Your law as void.
119:127. Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!
119:128. Therefore all [Your] precepts [concerning] all [things] I consider [to be] right; I hate every false way.

THE MESSAGE:

In today’s passage, the psalmist addresses what he loved and hated. From it we learn that we must love the right thing to hate the wrong thing (Psa.119: 113; Heb. 1: 9). We cleave to God by: loving what He loves; obeying His commandments and hating what He hates. This is the first step towards an unwavering following of God. To be able to make certain demands from God, we must love His words and be ready to obey them just as the psalmist was ready to give up all for his love for God’s commandment (Psa.119: 127).How did the psalmist arrive at his unwavering decision of loving God and obeying His commandments?

We saw that the psalmist compared God’s commandment with his most treasured material (gold) and discovered its superiority. With this, he cleaved to the giver of the commandment-God.Until we understand that every word of God was written to save us from this evil world and give us the things we need, we may continue to treat God’s word with contempt. Do you love what God loves and hate what He hates? Decide to cleave to God today by loving, studying and obeying His word.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, open my eyes to always see the perfectness of your word for my life.
