The Leverage Devotional by Apostle Segun Obadje 25 September 2024:What in a Man Attracts God?

Leverage Devotional For Today Message:

Looking through scriptures, God at different times chose different people from different backgrounds to undertake different tasks for Him; people like Abraham, Samuel, David and a host of others. Have you ever wondered what in the world attracted God to them? Could it have been their stature, skin colour, natural pedigree or temperament? The Word declares: “for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7), and again “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” (1 Peter 3:4). Apparently, their natural credentials did not attract God to them but their hearts. Beloved, it’s an established fact that the state of a man’s heart will either repel or attract God.

The heart of man is the centrality of man, the core of his being. The heart comprises the spirit and soul of man (1 Peter 3:4). The spirit of man is the seat of reality and it was made new and righteous when you got born again (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). The soul of man is the seat of personality. According to God’s Word, the soul has to be renewed or restored constantly by the Word of God (Romans 12:2; Psalm 23:3). Because the heart of man is made of the spirit and soul, the state of the soul per time determines the state of the heart. If the soul is ill inclined, the heart will be wrong. For example, a believer who keeps malice and tells lies is not walking in the truth of God’s Word; the mind hasn’t been renewed to the Word. Hence, the state of the heart will be wrong, not because he is not born again but for the wrong mindedness (Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:9). Another example is a believer who wants to go into ministry just to make money and become famous. This heart, motive or inclination is wrong. God cannot work with such a heart. A good heart with pure motives that’s full of love and meekness, like David’s, is what will attract God.

MY SOLID FRONT (CONFESSION)
Heavenly Father, I thank You for showing me what attracts You to people. I keep my heart pure, sincere and meek for Your glory. I choose to let Your love in my heart be my motivation for life and ministry, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Further Meditation: Matthew 5:1‐28; Psalm 24:1‐4
